Most infrared lamps stop at about a meter. That sounds like plenty until you’re running a continuous annealing tunnel. See, when you have a bunch of short lamps lined up, you get these tiny gaps between them. Those gaps create cold spots. If you’re moving large sheets of glass through, those temperature dips create internal stress. And stress leads to the one thing nobody wants: cracks or warping. We figured out a better way. Getting the Heat Right
You can’t just stretch a quartz tube and call it a day. If you do, the lamp will either bow in the middle or just burn out at the ends. It’s a mess. No More “Zebra Stripes”
When you’re dealing with long-run tunnels, layout is everything. We set these units up to sit flush or overlap. This kills the “zebra effect”—you know, those annoying alternating hot and cold stripes that show up on the glass. We also use reinforced end-caps and heavy-duty connectors. Why? Because these machines run 24/7. The constant expanding and contracting from the heat can wreck cheap connections. These are built to actually hold up.
The Honest Trade-offs
Look, longer lamps put out a massive amount of heat, and that comes with a few catches. First, watch your power. A 2-meter unit pulls a lot of current. If your wiring or breakers aren’t up to the task, you’ll hit voltage drops. Then there’s the fragility. The longer the tube, the easier it is to snap during a swap. We always suggest using dedicated mounting brackets to support the center. It’s a small detail, but it saves you from a very expensive “snap” during routine maintenance. The upside? If you’re running a high-throughput line, these long units mean way fewer connectors and power leads to baby. It cleans up the whole footprint and just makes your life easier.
